My story
I remember the moment, five years ago, when I was dragging myself out of bed after a long night shift and absolutely no sleep and I realised I had reached breaking point.
I had no idea how I was going to cope with looking after my toddler and 11-month-old baby through the day, and then go back to work for another night shift.
I'd hit a wall. Working nights, and looking after my children during the day was no longer feasible.
So I quit my job as a journalist and (desperately needing SOMETHING to occupy my time) picked up my beloved camera and started taking photos of my children.
Friends of mine were soon asking me to take photos of their children. And then they recommended me to their friends and before I knew it, I was embracing a whole set of new skills and setting up my own business as a family photographer.
Building a business from scratch has been a very steep learning curve and it is certainly not something I ever imagined I would do. But I find myself loving my job more and more each day.
The very best thing about being a photographer is that I get to capture magical memories of singular moments, for families to hold on to for a lifetime.
I get to photograph new-born babies, held in their parent's arms for the very first time.
I get to capture grandchildren held tightly in the arms of their loving grandparents.
With my camera, I get to literally freeze time, and produce images which show all the wonder, joy and (most importantly) all the love and laughter our children can bring us.
There really is no greater privilege.
