Fear

Fear

Fear
.
You are not scared of many things.
.
Blood doesn’t faze you. You donate it.
.
Spiders? You capture carefully in a glass and gently relocate from my bedroom to the garden.
.
Heights? No bother. You rock climb. You bungee. You skydive.
.
I am your Achilles heel.
.
“This terrifies me” you whisper in the dark one stormy October evening as you hold me in bed.
.
I silently nod in agreement and then pull the covers over my head and try and hide from my feelings.
.
We both have skeletons in the closet.
.
Haunted by relationships that broke down in the past.
.
Fearful that we may hurt one another.
.
Lay awake at night worrying that one day our love might die.
.
Are you tricking my heart?
.
Or will you always treat me like your boo?
.
While we live in fear of losing one another our relationship is alive.
.
Hearts race and blood pumps through our veins.
.
We don’t take a moment for granted.
.
In the dark we share our most intimate hopes and horror stories.
.
I look you dead in the eye and admit what I’m really scared of.
.
The words give me goosebumps.
.
“What if one day you simply feel indifferent?”
.
Here today. Ghost tomorrow.
